Joseph a Type of Christ

Introduction:

We have come to see the extreme importance of being educated in the Old Testament Scriptures. It is at this point we come to learn of our need of a Savior. The wicked brothers of Joseph are indeed a picture of our fallenness and sin, whereas the wisdom and graciousness of Joseph reveals to us our loving Savior who pulled us out of the depths of blindness and utter prejudice. As Jesus said to the Pharisees, “If you were blind, you would have no sin, but since you say, we see,’ your sin remains.” (John 9:41)



  1. Joseph Rejected By His Brothers

    1. The principles that govern life

      1. Why do so many reject the Christian message?

      2. Joseph fulfills all the requirement of a “type” of Christ – John 1:11

      3. The Holy Spirit must bring conviction – v. 51,52


    1. The Ground on which Joseph’s brothers rejected him

      1. Superiority over his brothers – Gen. 37:8,10,11; Luke 19:14;

      2. Superiority of Christ over the Pharisees – John8:23; 14:6, 9; Matt. 5:27-ff.

    2. The Cause on which Joseph’s brothers rejected him

      1. They were moved by Jealousy – v.9; cf. Mark 15:10; Gen. 37:11; Luke 20;19-47

      2. They were Spiritually blind – (Jacob understood Joseph’s uniqueness – (Gen. 28:16-17)

    3. Having a reasonable conversation – Isa. 1:18

      1. Light exposes the darkness – John 3:19

2. Satan blinds minds – II Cor. 4:3-4



  1. Joseph Comforted His Brothers –v.11

    1. Helpless and Destitute

      1. ”God was with Joseph” v.9

      2. God sent Joseph to preserve life – (Heb. Mikh-yaw, “preservation and sustenance of life” (Gen. 45:5)


    1. God’s Sovereign plan – Gen. 50:20

      1. Some people blame God for their failures and sin – Jam. 1:13-15

      2. Joseph acts like Christ – He sends blessing – Turn To Romans 5:6-11
