What Peter Preached

Introduction:

Our text before us is what we might call a model sermon. It appears to be a rather lengthy sermon, well versed in Scripture. Peter knows his audience and exposits pertinent Old Testament Scripture that most of the people are well aware of. It is a sermon that centers upon the life and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. This sermon is centered on the Bible. It is a sermon empowered by the Holy Spirit demonstrating fearlessness and reasoning from the Scripture. (Isaiah 1:18)


  1. THE GOSPEL WITH NO LANGUAGE BARRIER

    1. The miraculous thing about tongues – v. 6, 8, 11

      1. Promised by our Lord – Mark 16:17

      2. Occurred at the house of Cornelius – Acts 10:44-48

      3. Occurred among the Ephesian believers – Acts19:6

    2. Tongue Mania

      1. Paul admonition to the Corinthians – I Cor. 12:10; 13:8

    3. Three basic points about tongues:

      1. Tongues in Greek are real languages

      2. Tongues were a sign to the unbelievers – I Cor. 14:21,22; Isa. 28:11-12

      3. Tongues is inseparably bound with the revelatory activity with God (Galilean v.7 cf. Matt. 14:70; Luke 22:59)

      1. The Hebrew word for the first word “Lord” is Yahweh – “the great God and eternal existing One”
